Fourth O' July style

        This Fourth of July I was grateful for many things, but mostly that I didn't feel like death. The day before I felt awful so it was soo nice to just be able to be out and about like a normal person. Anyway I worked for most of the fourth and didn't really have concrete plans until after work at about 7pm.  My friend that I usually go see fireworks with was busy working so I went with a good friend from work. Luckily my friend lives really close to the (Mississippi) river, which is one of the places that has fireworks in/ around Minneapolis. So I parked at her house and we walked to the river. We watched fireworks from the stone arch bridge and then has some delicious food truck food. The weather was amazing  and it was a really fun night. 

        On to the outfit! I had a couple outfits in mind for this festive occasion but decided to go with this one after figuring out where I was going. Last year I went all red, white and blue and felt a little hokey. You can do patriotic really well and cool or you can do it badly and look like an elementary school teacher rocking a Fourth of July themed sweater vest. I had a tamed down outfit picked out that still had red, white, and blue but decided I just wasn't in the mood for it. So I went with this asos skirt I recently purchased and a simple white scoop neck top. I like the outfit although in hindsight white wasn't the best color for my food truck excursion. It could use a little more something but it was pretty hot out and it was a nice easy breezy outfit for the fourth.

Hmong Freedom Celebration 2013

          Last Saturday I went with a good friend from work to the Hmong Freedom Celebration. It's an annual event held in Como Park in St. Paul. The main draw is a big Soccer tournament that they hold, but they also have a beauty and talent competitions as well as food and vendors selling all sorts of goodies. The parking was crazy, we ended up parking in the Como Zoo overflow lot and taking a shuttle to the zoo then walking to the festival. Anyway it was really fun, we didn't really get to watch any of the soccer, as my friend had to work later that day. But we walked around ate and had a good time. We even went to the Zoo afterward for a while, which made us feel better about parking in the Zoo lot.

     Since about mid-March I've been scoring the internet and local retail/thrift stores for the perfect summer dress. Unfortunately I haven't found anything I've liked enough to buy. In fact I've been having a pretty dismal time trying to find dresses in general that I like.  Luckily though great skirt options have become abundant. So, I couldn't help myself from splurging on  few skirts for summer. Here are a few of the skirts I've been drooling over lately.

      Hey guys!! Sorry the blog has been super quiet lately. My computer died and I have no idea what computer I should buy as a replacement. If you happen to be a techie and/or have any good laptop advice/ tips do tell, I'm in desperate need!

       I have a bunch of outfit posts to get to and recent vacaton/ roadtrip photos to post but they're gonna have to wait until I get another computer. I can post via my iPod touch but it's not exactly the best way to blog and I can only post photos that are on my iPod. Anyway if you want to keep up with me for at least the next week follow me on Instagram ( @blackcatlies) and I'll be back to posting regularly ASAP. 

Spring?

          Yes those pictures are recent and yes it's the middle of April. Winter seems to digging it's icy fingernails deep into Minnesota this year, much to everyone's chagrin. Though we've had some nice days they have been eclipsed by the accumulation of multiple inches of snow in mid April. This is all to say that this weather really hasn't inspired any fabulous outfits. My fashion brain seems to be purely focused on warm weather and just isn't jiving with all this snow. Nevertheless I did manage to put together a halfway decent outfit to share with you all so here goes nothin'!

I wore this to go thrifting on one of my days off. I was so tempted to go with my "go-to" outfit but forced myself to wear something else. Obviously this isn't an amazing outfit but It's still pretty good, I'm happy with it. Anyway here's hoping spring finally beats off winter soon so I can finally put my winter outfits and the thought of snow to rest, at least for a few months.

Things I didn't buy at the Thrift Store

1.  Mid century dresser

 2.  Random Japanese plate. After going to the "Japan" section of Epcot at Disney world and seeing all the cool Japanese pottery they had I'm kind of into Japanese pottery. This plate was nice but not quite nice enough to get.

5.   Ugly/cool pendant light

6.  Green Asian-y lamp. This lamp was pretty cool but I figured I don't really need anymore lamps unless I can't live without them. 

7.  Sunrise in America 80's dolls. I almost got these but the last thing I need is dolls collecting dust in my room, so I passed.

8.  Nightstand.

9. Cow Creamer Dispenser. I'm kind of into these creamer dispensers that are shaped like cows. But I don't really need it so I passed.

10.  Arts and Crafts Style couch.

11. Barbra Streisand Superman record. I only look through the records occasionally, but this record was kind of cool. Go on Babs with yo' bad self.

12. Vintage Pink Chair. The last thing we need is more chairs, but this one was very tempting.

13.  Random mug.

 14. Fancy-ish china. I looked on the bottom of this and it looked like it was fancy china, but I don't know much about china. Even though it was cute I just don't need it and don't really have anywhere to put it.

15. Vintage Snack Sets. Some of these were cool and in their original packaging which was cool, but I already have one set of snack sets and I don't use them.
