A Break from the Silence

The skirt has pockets!

Everything: Thrifted

Sorry for the crickets last week. I've actually been super busy but haven't been wearing any blog worthy outfits. I got an internship a few weeks ago with a local non-profit so now most of my days off I'm interning. This is actually great news for the blog, since I'm not just roaming around in my PJ's. Anyway last week the company I'm interning for moved to a different location so I telecommuted, which essentially means I sat on the couch making lots and lots of graphs in my Pj's lounge wear. Anyway this week I'm back to actual commuting so I should have some more outfits coming. My internship office is pretty casual so my options are pretty wide, within reason of course.
I had an outfit picked out for today but scraped it when I woke up and it was raining. I was contemplating wearing pants but decided on a skirt when I saw it was supposed to be 91 today. I thrifted this skirt a couple weeks ago at a Savers 50% off sale but I didn't really try it on. I like the skirt but I think I could probably shorten it a little.  I'm kind of obsessed with these shoes. I had been looking for some Minnetonka Moccasins for awhile. I hadn't had any luck and was thinking about buying some new when I found these at Savers. I think they may be a wee bit too small for me, as I've worn them a couple times and they're still not broken in, but I'm determined to make them work.

Thinking outside of my style comfort box

leather and sheer

Maybe it's the extreme heat or all the flouncy skirts I've been wearing so far this summer, but for some reason I'm craving neutrals, blacks, leather and sheer. I've been thinking about my wardrobe and I've found myself craving slightly edgier pieces.  This sort of look is a little outside what I usually go for, as there is no color and lots of black, but I kind of love that. I'm having visions of neutral sheer blouses with skinny black pants and leather, things I wouldn't have pick previously. These visions aren't exactly season appropriate, it seems a bit looney to be thinking of leather in the recent heat wave we've been having, but I can't help when inspiration hits. Plus, a lot of these looks could work for summer given many of the tops are sheer or light weight. I'm trying to save some money so these things will have to wait for a little while, which is fine since they're really mostly fall/winter appropriate. But when labor day sales hit, watch out!

Taliesin Outfit #2 :Pattern Mixing like a fiend

Oliver likes to jump on me when I seem to be randomly standing around.
Top: Trifted Skirt: Jason Wu for Target Shoes: DV by Dolce Vita

The thirfted striped shirt strikes again! I wore this the last day of our trip. I love the pattern mixing in this outfit. I read awhile ago that stripes and floral prints work well together, so I figured i'd give it a go with this outfit. I really like how it turned out and I think it helps that both patterns are also in the same color family. I wanted something easy and comfortable to wear on the last day of our trip and this worked perfectly. I didn't feel like doing my hair so I pulled it up into a top knot. I'm not 100% sure about the top knot though, I think if it were back a little more I'd like it more. Anyway I really like this outfit and have another shirt that is also blue and white that I'll probably pair with this skirt in a future post. Anyway that's all for now!

Taliesin Outfit #1

Shirt and Skirt:: Thrifted  Earrings: PLNDR  Belt: Target  Sunnies: Forever 21  Shoes: DV by Dolce Vita

This is my outfit from the first day of our Taliesin trip. I'm only going to post two of the outfits I wore on the trip so I can move on to more recent outfits. This is the outfit I wore the first full day of the trip. I was going to save it for the tour of Taliesin but I felt like wearing it the day before, so I did. I wore this outfit awhile ago with a gold necklace instead of earrings and I think I like that better, adds more interest to the shirt. That said I really like this outfit, there's something easy yet chic about it that appeals to me.
Anyway I'm trying to save some money so I'm gonna try and not shop so much (or at all if I can) this month and possibly into the next. I have enough summer clothes to last until the end of the season so I'm going to try and post more outfit posts and fewer thrift finds. I'm excited to do it though, since I still have a lot of summer outfits to show you all!

Thrift Finds

1. Fire King Blue Heaven Plate. How cool would it be to have a whole set of these plates? pretty awesome right? I don't find this pattern much, but I love it and it's my second piece with this pattern.

2. Assorted Early American Pyrex Fridge's. I never have luck finding fridges even though I think they're soo cute! I went to the Salvation army a few weeks ago and found these bad boys. The big one is the only one with a lid but I can always look for lids. I'm pretty neutral about this pattern but I like it enough, I have a small mixing bowl in the pattern and the price was right. So I got them.

the little ones even have kitties on them!

3. Light Blue Pyrex Fridge. I found this at the same salvation army as the early American fridges above. It doesn't have a lid but I loved the color so I had to get it.

4. 50's Made in Japan Poodle Card and Pen Holder. I'm always looking for cute made in Japan ceramic figurines, so when I saw this I kind of had to get it. I had no idea what it was when I got it, but I looked it up and it's a pen and card holder. I think there used to be an eraser on the dogs head, you can put cards/letters in the spring-y part and pens in the back.

5. Relco Asian Ceramic Figurines. I found these at Savers a couple weeks ago when they were having a 50% off sale. Of course they weren't on sale, but I got them anyway. I think they're supposed to be bookends but there not heavy enough to actually be bookends. So they're more decorative than anything.

6. Haeger Nursery Planter. I don't have a baby boy and I'm not pregnant but I loved this planter too much to leave without it. I love the sort of art deco style of the animals and it's just super cute.

** This week I'm linking up with Her Library Adventures' Flea Market Finds again, so go and check out the cool stuff other bloggers found!

America, Fuck Yeah!

Shirt, Shoes & Skirt: Thrifted   Earrings:PLNDR

Today, as you may have known, is the fourth of July. Unfortunately I had to work today, but I get time and a half and we close early so I can still see the fireworks. The fourth is one of my favorite holidays, I'm really not sure why. Maybe it's that it's one of the few holidays during the summer, maybe it's the BBQ's, maybe it's that sense of collective patriotism or maybe I'm just really into fireworks. Either way I'm a big fan of the fourth . I decided to be corny this year and dress super patriotically. It's been incredibly hot here all week and this hot humid weather is supposed to last the whole week, so I knew pants or anything too hot was a no go. I found this blue and white striped shirt a couple weeks ago while thrifting and knew it would be perfect to wear on the 4th. The only problem is for some reason I don't own a lot of red, so last week I thrifted this skirt and shortened it just for today. Since thrifting a similar style skirt earlier this year I've been kind of obsessed with these button front skirts. Unfortunately most of the ones you find at thrift stores are super long. Generally I'm not willing to shell out too much on something I have to tailor since I 'm most likely not going to get it professionally tailored and I could totally mess it up. But it was a 50% off day so the skirt cost about a dollar, so I figured I'd give it a whirl. The tailoring isn't perfect, but it's good enough. I probably, most likely will change to flats for fireworks but these shoes work so well with the outfit I had to wear um.
I was trying to figure out a good patriotic blog title and America, Fuck Yeah! from the Team American World Police Soundtrack just kept coming up. If you don't know the song it's pretty hilarious, It's a satire of those "we'll put a boot in your ass" super patriotic songs that came out post 9/11. Anyway here's the video:

Have a fabulous 4th (if you're in the USA) and if not have a great hump day!
